Back in July 2018, Square Enix released the first Octopath Traveler with Nintendo Switch as its platform. The game not only received a really favorable welcome from the Square Enix fans, it also managed to be nominated and won several awards. This positive response was then taken as a greenlight to expand the series as by March 2019, they announced that a new Octopath Traveler game will be released to the market. This new Octopath Traveler game was titled Octopath Traveler: Champion of the Continent and is actually a prequel of its predecessor.

So what is Octopath Traveler and why is it so popular? Octopath Traveler is a turn-based RPG game that uses a retro aesthetic visual. Just like the title suggests, in Octopath Traveller player will be put in the role of eight different characters. Each of them will start their adventure in different ways as they all came from different parts of the world, which affect their job and attribute. Although they start their journey in different circumstances, their stories are intertwining with one another. This kind of play allows the player to experience the universe from multiple perspectives.

From the info we’ve received so far, there seems not much of a difference between Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent to its predecessor when it comes to the game play. As far as we know, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent still took place in Orsterra. However, since it’s a prequel, the event took place years before its predecessor. Other things that we can firmly confirm, is they have amazing soundtracks.

Unlike Octopath Traveler that debuted in Nintendo Switch, Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be available on iOS on the App Store and Android via Google Play. When the game was announced back in March 2019, it was planned to be released by the end of that year. However due to some circumstances the release has to be delayed.

Luckily we don’t have to wait for long as on September 18th, Square Enix finally revealed that Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be available in Japan on October 28th, 2020. A lot of people are hyped about this, however many can’t help but to wonder if the game will be available for the western audience. So far, Square Enix has not mentioned whether Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be Japan exclusive or not. Since there is still no official statement, many still hope that it will be available for the western market soon.
