5 Things You Need to Know About SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays

SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays

SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays is part of the Gundam game series, which is a grid-based strategy game. This Super Robot Wars spin-off game is known for its mecha crossover, whether they are from the anime series, games, or manga. This game is an indirect sequel from previous series SD Gundam G Generation Genesis. Let’s see what good things the game will offer. Check it out!

The Gameplay is Still The Same as Other SD Gundam G Generation Series

SD Gundam G Generation was famous for its grid-based gameplay strategy which you will also find in this new entry of the series. At each stage, you will launch Warships (WS) containing Mobile Suit (MS) or Mobile Armor (MA). Meanwhile, each stage is on a grid-based map that follows the storyline of every Gundam series in this game.

Each MS and WS will have their health points and energy. If you run out of HP, it would mean that your MS and WS will be destroyed. Meanwhile, energy functions as an attack or defense action, which will deplete as you do more actions. Unlike the HP system, you don't need to worry if the energy runs out because it can recover by returning to the base.

Besides that, there will be an objective bonus in each stage that you must complete. You can buy new ships, ship crews, MS pilots, MS upgrades, and even buy optional parts for MS.

Stories from other Gundam series

No Longer Set in Universal Century (UC)

In the previous series, it used a UC timeline with 17 Gundam series. This time, the latest entry does not include the Gundam series from the UC timeline into this game.

SD Gundam G Generation Cross Rays will only have four popular Gundam series timelines outside the UC timeline. These four are After Colony (Mobile Suit Gundam Wing), Cosmic Era (Mobile Suit Gundam SEED), Anno Domini (Mobile Suit Gundam 00), and Post Disaster (Mobile Suit Gundam Iron-Blooded Orphans).

The four series will later be expanded with side-stories. Besides, the characters and MS that is original from the SD Gundam games will also liven up this game too.

Gundams

More Gundams You Can Play

Even though the setting only takes four Gundam series, it does not necessarily mean that there will be fewer Gundam to play with. There will be many fan-favorite Gundams that you will see in this game, for example, Gundam Wing Zero, Strike Freedom Gundam, Gundam 00 Qan [T], and Gundam Barbatos. Also, you can use various MS from the side-stories of the four series.

Not only the MS, but the game will also present more characters, pilot, and crew than the previous series.

Pilot

Higher Quality Graphics and Authentic VoiceOver

The quality of the graphics and animation presented in this game is made with better detail such as the laser beam particles, dust, and the model for the SD Gundams which are more sharp and refined.

According to Keiichiro Joutaki, the Art Director, the most important thing to do with this game is to give attention to detail of the Gundams. Thus having every Gundams their unique characteristics, for example, animations for evading attacks are increased for better diversity, not to mention the different cockpits of each MS.

The voice actors of the characters are the original ones from each of their Gundam series. The character also has a unique dialogue when they’re using their respective MS.

Gundam fights

No More "Old Gundam Vs. New Gundam”.

In the previous game, Genesis, it felt more like a technological war between the "old Gundam vs. the new Gundam" because of the typical UC story setting. This will not be a problem in this game due to each MS or Gundam having a unique set of moves. Which means the Gundam from the recent era will not necessarily mean that it will be the most powerful Gundam.
