One of the biggest Japanese mobile game Granblue Fantasy is currently developing two PS4 games. They are Granblue Fantasy: Versus and Granblue Fantasy: Relink. The two games were announced back at Granblue Fes 2018 by Cygames. Although in Relink’s case, it was re-revealed on the said event since this game was first announced way back on August 2016.

Granblue Fantasy is a free-to-play iOS, Android and web browsers RPG game developed by Cygames. The game was first released in Japan on March 2014. It is known to have reunited the music composer Nobuo Uematsu and the art director Hideo Minaba, who were both known for working together on a few Final Fantasy titles in the franchise (i.e Final Fantasy V). The game plays as an RPG with a turn-based battle system where players are able to gain Summons, Weapons, Characters, Levels, and Abilities through completing quests or by making an in-app purchase, usually known as Gacha system.

Meanwhile, Granblue Fantasy: Versus is a 2D fighting game made by Arc System Works, the studio responsible for developing Blazblue, Guilty Gear, Persona 4 Arena, etc. In this game, players are able to fight with their favorite characters from Granblue Fantasy series. The full character roster that will be available in the game are still unknown, however, Gran, Katalina, Charlotta, Lancelot, Ferry and Lowain are set to be in the game.

Like a lot of recent fighting games, this game will have Online Versus mode and Ranked mode, and with this also came the possibility of making this particular game into an eSport, similar to Tekken franchise. But according to the developers, this game will also have a single-player story mode which comprises of an original story, this mode will be made for players who are not into the competitive side of a fighting game. This game is said to be released sometime this year.

As for Granblue Fantasy: Relink, it is a 3D action RPG game developed by Cygames, and Platinum Games, the studio which is known for developing Bayonetta series and Nier: Automata, however, on February 4th 2019 the companies have announced that Platinum games will no longer be involved with Relink.

The gameplay consists of player roaming and exploring around the side quest or story quest area, fighting monsters and defeat bosses like a traditional RPG. In this game, instead of having different weapons for one character, there will be a variety of characters with different moves and skill set to play. There is also a multiplayer co-op mode, where up to 4 players can play together using any character that they have unlocked. The players can choose to play any character in the co-op party, so it is possible for everyone to use the same character at the same time. Just like Versus, the number of characters that will be available hasn’t been revealed just yet.

To understand Relink’s main story the players don’t need to be familiar with the mobile game, because the setting and the story in this console game is very similar to the mobile counterpart. Despite that, the developers have said that there will be surprises even to the players who played the original Granblue Fantasy. Currently, the release date for Granblue Fantasy: Relink is still unknown.

It was said that these console games will have the Japanese and Western version to be released simultaneously worldwide.
