Final Fantasy Grandmasters Closed Beta Underway in Japan!

Jun 25, 2015

Hey guys, Nick here with more exciting mobile gaming news straight from Japan to you! A few months back, I made a blog post regarding the famous Square Enix Final Fantasy XI making a spin-off game for mobile devices. This news was kind of shocking to the fans who have played this game because of the fact that it was a console-based MMO that would be coming to phones and being co-developed by Nexon, the Korean game developing and publishing company. Well, as I promised I have been following closely, and I just got word that the closed beta has now officially begun for the game Final Fantasy Grandmasters. Let's check some of the details out!

So first off, there are two games to be released: the first one will be titled Final Fantasy Grandmasters, which will be a separate story completely from the Final Fantasy XI MMO that we all know and love, but held in the same world. Shortly after, we will see the shutdown of the official final fantasy XI servers in US and Japan for Playstation and PlayStation, followed by the release of the new version of Final Fantasy XI for mobile! I have seen some mixed reactions over this game port, but in my case I am very excited, as I have have spent many years enjoying this game when I was younger and will be looking forward to see how it all plays out on our phones!

Currently, if you are interested in being a part of the beta you need to at least pretend that you are from Japan and get yourself to the official site which will give you more details. It explains that when you sign up with your email, if chosen you will be sent a special raffle email about partaking in the current beta. If not, expect to just receive nothing. Unfortunately I have not gotten a beta invite yet, so if you do get a chance to play, please let us know how it is in the comments section!

No word whether either of these titles will have monthly fees or purchases and download fees attached, like their old model but I am going to predict that it will be free to download with some cash-shop features. What do you guys think? I will definitely be keeping you all up to date on this title as more unfolds.
