Kancolle Girls and Their Fate in Real Life.

Jun 11, 2021

Kantai Collection, or Kancolle for short, is a Japanese Free-to-play web browser game where you play as a Teitoku who commands a fleet of ships in the form of a girls, Kantai Musume or Kanmusu for short is a personification of a real life ship used in World War II. At first there’s only Japanese ships in the game, but later on they added Germany, Italy, UK, and US ships as well. Kantai Collection used to be popular back in the day, while we didn’t play it anymore, Kantai Collection will always have a special place in our hearts. The mission that’s available in the game is pretty close to what really happened in the real world. The sinking of your ship is totally decided by you. If you don’t want your ship to sink, you can just concede from your mission. However, that’s not what happens in the real world. A lot of Japanese ships sank and we’re here to talk about it! Without further ado let’s begin by talking about the ship sinking that mattered the most to the Imperial Japan Navy.

Akagi and Kaga

Akagi, Kaga, and 2 other fleet carriers of the Kido Butai participated in the Battle of Midway in June 1942. Akagi, Kaga, and the other carriers were attacked by aircraft from Midway and the Allied carriers. Dive bombers severely damaged both Akagi and Kaga. When it became obvious they could not be saved, Akagi and Kaga were scuttled by Japanese destroyers.

Nagato

Nagato saw the end of World War II and was captured by the Allied. Nagato was selected to participate as a target ship in Operation Crossroads, a series of U.S. nuclear weapon tests held at Bikini Atoll in mid-1946. Nagato was Bombed twice and capsize the next day after the second bomb. She has become a scuba diving destination in recent years and The Times named Nagato as one of the top ten wreck diving sites in the world in 2007

Mutsu

On 8 June 1943, Mutsu was moored at Hashirajima when the magazine of her No. 3 turret exploded, cutting the ship in half. The forward section capsized almost immediately, but the rear section remained afloat until the early morning of the next day. To avert the potential damage to morale from the loss of a battleship, Mutsu's loss was declared as a state secret.

Yamato

The heaviest and most powerfully armed battleships ever constructed. Yamato designed to counter the numerically superior battleship fleet of the United States. Yamato was dispatched on a one-way mission to Okinawa in April 1945, with orders to beach herself and fight until destroyed, thus protecting the island. Yamato was spotted south of Kyushu by US submarines and aircraft, and on 7 April 1945 Yamato was sunk by American carrier-based bombers and torpedo bombers.

Since a lot of ships were sunk during the course of World War II, an article would not be enough to tell them all so write down in the comments! Which ship would you like us to talk about?
